Top 10 Desired Beatles Rock Band Songs

I imagine that since these came on out Monday, anyone who cares a whole lot about the two Beatles Rock Band trailers have likely seen them by now. But I just can’t forgive myself for not having them stored somewhere in my archives. (As the videos will likely be inevitably removed from YouTube, you can see both trailers in full at the Beatles Rock Band website.)

So, obviously this week we got a whole bunch of news. For example, three-part harmonies are confirmed! (*Cue jumping up and down*) And, for another example, we learned ten of the tracks that will appear in the game:

* I Saw Her Standing There
* I Want to Hold Your Hand
* I Feel Fine
* Day Tripper
* Taxman
* I Am The Walrus
* Back In The U.S.S.R.
* Octopus’s Garden
* Here Comes The Sun
* Get Back

Judging from the opening cinematic, I’m going to guess that A Hard Day’s Night and Paperback Writer are pretty surely in there as well. I at least hope so, as they are both on my list of songs I definitely want. And I don’t know about you, but I am certainly pleased with this first list. Every song but three (Back In the U.S.S.R., Octopus’s Garden and Here Comes The Sun) is one that I desperately wanted to appear. And now that I know they’re there, I’m rather excited about Octopus’s Garden and Here comes The Sun. (Back In the U.S.S.R. wasn’t on my list, but will do fine, I suppose.)

We also got the news, which for me is probably as exciting as the first glimpse of the game if not more so, that Abbey Road — the entire Abbey Road album — will be available for download after the game’s release. Which means that I get not only I Want You (She’s So Heavy), which I always thought should be in the game and desperately wanted but never expected to get, but also the fucking Abbey Road Medley. There are no words for this. None.

Anyway. When we factor in the fact that Abbey Road will be available for download in full, that’s two of the songs from my original top 5 list of most-desired Beatles songs for the game already in there. And there’s still 35 left (33 if we assume that AHDN and Paperback Writer are actually in there, if yet to be announced).

What do you hope they will be? My top 10 — excluding any additional tracks from Abbey Road (such as Something and Come Together), as we know they will be DLC if not a part of the in-game 45 — are below.

1. While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Of course I have to start out with the leftovers from my previous top 5 list. And this song just has to be in there, right? I mean, right? Because if not, there will be a mutiny.

2. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

3. Revolution

4. Ticket to Ride

Oh man, how this song has to make an appearance. If it does not, I can not express how angry I will be. Because seriously? Just for that little itty bitty guitar line at the end of the bridge, I would buy this fucking game. And every part of this song — guitar, bass, drums and vocals — rocks so ridiculously hard. Oh, and those harmonies! This song was made for this game. This game was made for this song. It must be in there.

5. A Day In The Life

Psh. No, of course I don’t know how they’re going to do it! But I don’t know how they’re going to do I Am The Walrus or several songs from Abbey Road, either, and they’re doing those, right? That’s the job of Giles Martin and Harmonix. And Giles has yet to ever let me down.

6. Strawberry Fields Forever

See the comments for A Day In The Life.

7. Helter Skelter

How hard would this song rock? Infinitely hard, that’s how hard. It’s gotta, gotta, gotta be in there. Also, I want for them to actually rate us on how well we manage to scream “I’ve got blisters on my fingers!!!!” Hehe.

8. Can’t Buy Me Love

Great guitar, great vocal, great drums, and though you can’t really tell unless you have a remastered version, great bass line. And of course we need some rocking early songs. And I’ve always felt that right after I Want to Hold Your Hand, Can’t Buy Me Love is the cream of the crop.

9. Rain

Great song overall, but just for the drums. Which I still need to learn how to play. Godfuckingdammit. Anyway. Yes, if for nothing else, then for the drums.

10. Twist and Shout

Okay, I can’t help myself. I don’t really want there to be any covers in the game, other than this one. And I don’t know if there will be any covers at all. My husband is convinced that it will not be in the game, since it’s not an original Beatles song. I’m holding out hope, since it makes a brief appearance in the opening cinematic.

But original Beatles song or not, this is one of the greatest rock performances ever. And I totally want to “play” it.

So, let’s have it — what are the top yet to be announced songs you want to see in The Beatles: Rock Band?

    I hadn’t heard about Abbey Road being available for download (Facebook is letting me down here). And I’m a little embarrassed to say this news nearly brought tears to my eyes because I am such an Abbey Road nerd.

    I pretty much want the whole of the Beatles catalogue in this game; is that so much to ask for? Well, maybe not Revolution 9, but like everything else. Then I could actually do Savoy Truffle, which will NO WAY be in this game otherwise. (Prove me wrong, Harmonix.)

      Everybody loves Eleanor Rigby! It’d just be a little bit hard to do for the game 🙂

      L.E. — the Abbey Road thing, as I said, is probably the biggest and most exciting news to me. It is just so outrageously amazing. And such a dream come true.

      They are apparently going to do more “complete album downloads.” At the press conference, when Giles announced the availability of Abbey Road, he said that it was the first of the full albums that will eventually become available. Which means that I’m voting for Sgt. Pepper of course, Revolver (though I’m admittedly uncertain how they will do a few tracks, such as Eleanor Rigby!) and I think that A Hard Day’s Night, which is in my opinion head and shoulders the best early Beatles album, would be absolutely perfect. Just, you know, as a bare minimum 🙂

        Oh, though I yesterday saw a demo of I Am The Walrus, and so have a better idea of how they’ve done it — they charted the violin notes as guitar! Which makes sense. I imagine they could do the same thing for Rigby, but of course that still leaves bass and drums. LOL.

    Aw, I hate downloadable content. 1. I don’t want to set up my XBox to connect to the internet, 2. I don’t want to pay for something I will hardly ever use, and 3. even if the game is region-free and I can play it at all (apparently a lot of XBox games are but some are not) I doubt I can download English-language content from the Japanese XBox network. 😦
